We have some new notices in the Work Opportunities section of Associates’ Corner, some looking for associates with specific skills/capabilities and also one advertising an internal job opportunity. If you have any questions please feel free to get in touch, and remember to check regularly for updates.

Next up, we have some exciting news about a new addition to the Production Team, who many of you will recognise… Anthony Houghton

Many of you will already know Anthony from his work as both an Actor-Assessor and Facilitator on Kaplan. His warmth, dedication and collaborative nature have made him a pleasure to work with as a freelancer, and we’re really excited to have him join us full-time.

Name: Gemma Rook-Stewart

Best thing that you’ve ever done? A bit cheesy but probably marrying my wonderful husband! I’ve been lucky enough to do lots of exciting / interesting / unusual things, especially in my previous life as an actor; including getting to tour multiple countries but in terms of ‘best’ I’d say tying the knot. 

Best piece of advice you’ve been given? I feel very lucky to have been given some absolute gems in terms of advice over the years, whether that’s been from family, friends or…well, if I’m completely honest: Instagram. One piece of advice that I was given when I first started making my own bed was to turn the duvet cover inside out, insert your arms to the very end corners, grab hold of the duvet whilst wearing the duvet cover as a massive glove, shake shake shake and the bed is made. Magic. 

Favourite film? Obviously the Harry Potter films for nostalgic reasons. I also loved The Neverending Story and watched it on repeat when I was a child. I can still quote the entire script. My mum recently told me that when I was on the swings when I was about 5, a random child asked me what my name was and I proudly said ‘Atreyu.’ (Atreyu was one of the lead male characters in the film…)

Pet hate? Passive aggressive behaviour. I also hate it when objects are deposited on the bottom step of the staircase in my house. Why is it always me carrying the things up the stairs?!

Best project you’ve worked on? This is a tough one! I worked on a project earlier this year that involved a lot of ‘firsts’ for me and that was very enjoyable. New interactive tools to enhance virtual deliveries, a new subject area, bespoke to the company we were working with and a new customer. There were a lot of moving parts and a lot of unfamiliar territory but it was very satisfying and the overall result was a super exciting, well received experience. 

Biggest achievement at Alchemist? Moving into the role of Executive Producer and becoming line manager to a wonderful team of Producers. I feel incredibly lucky to have been given that opportunity. 

Tell us something surprising about yourself Until about a year ago I had a genuine phobia of baby sweetcorn.

Any hidden talents? I can run ridiculously fast on my hands and legs, like a dog. I have no idea why I started doing this when I was younger – probably because I was and still am a massive animal lover. I suggested it as a race category at my school sports day which they took on and I believe it is still in existence!
