The Human Element

Context

Network Rail is synonymous with transportation in Great Britain. It is the owner and infrastructure manager of most of its railway network. It has over 40,000 employees and is a public body of the Department for Transport.

Challenge

They were looking to support the 5,000 Signal Engineers, looking to develop their non-technical skills, within their technical environment.

The programme had to be scalable, to provide an offering that also contributed to the understanding of how technical and non-technical skills intertwine for Signal Engineers.

The Solution

Alchemist designed a blended learning journey that incorporate eight core focus areas that Network Rail had identified.

The design incorporated the valuable real experiences and challenges employees face on a daily basis with digital content, gamification, films, simulations and virtual programmes.

This provided strategic development skills that were integrated with tangible examples provided to create a sense of realism for the participants. To embed the learning in the field, rather than in the classroom.
