Testing your people’s capabilities is a key strategy for continuous improvement. As part of our client’s top talent programme in the professional services sector, they needed an immersive learning simulation that could do just that. The event needed to simulate client interactions to build confidence and capability in their talent.

Four different scenarios were required. Partners would need to demonstrate their capability to stretch and adapt to different cultures and industries represent in these scenarios.

Immersive Learning Design

Alchemist co-designed four individual scenario briefs. These included a formal letter and client history, as well as an actor’s brief. This, in particular, was aligned across the full set of briefs to ensure there was enough versatility, range and experience. Co-designing these meant that every brief was written to be a highly relevant, true-to-life experience.

In the simulations, participants experienced conversations with Alchemist actors. The actors stopped the conversations at relevant junctures, before walking the other participants in the group back through the experience. These pauses allowed space for reflection.

The participants then received coaching and engaged in active dialogue about how to progress. Afterwards, they had the opportunity to put this to the test and leverage the feedback they had discussed and agreed upon.

Immersive Learning In Practice

This simulated learning event formed part of a four year programme, which was run three times per year. Between 14 and 20 actors were supplied for half day delivery sessions. Positive results were achieved and participants consistently rated it as the most valuable day of their programme. This shows that by finding the other way to deliver key messaging, it is possible to provide truly engaging learning experiences.
